Zusammenfassung:Aqueous NaOH/urea solution is an effective solvent capable of dissolving biomass. In this study, the changes in the dissolution yields and chemical compositions of organosolv micronized residues were investigated via carrying out repeated freeze-thaw processes of the materials in NaOH/urea solution. Comparing the dissolution yields, the first dissolution process dissolved to 56.3% of the sample and then the insoluble part of the sample subjected to the second round of freeze-thaw process generated an additional dissolution yield of 14.5%, leading to the overall yield of 70.8% from the feed material. Based on the material balance in the course of the repeated dissolution processes, it was found that the major proportion of the cellulose and hemicellulose in the sample were solubilized in the first dissolution process and that the dissolution of lignin was relatively independent of the repeated dissolution processes.
