Zusammenfassung: | This study aimed to increase the effectiveness of “traditional Korean paper” which is generally defined, production by improving cooking efficiency of the lye solution method using agricultural byproducts from farmers because of the high yields expected from raw materials used during cooking production. First, measured lye content and used X-ray diffraction to analyze components of the four most commonly used agricultural byproducts namely, pepper stem, bean stalk, sesame stem, and buckwheat stem. We then used pH and alkalinity analysis in order to judge materials with high cooking efficiency.
Second, to improve overall lye cooking efficiency using low alkalinity ingredients, we evaluated the physical properties of paper made of buckwheat lye with the lowest production alkalinity and addition of other byproducts. Based on this investigation, we demonstrated that addition of high alkalinity lye resulted in higher cooking efficiency from grassland byproducts, and that paper made from cooked bast fibers in lye mixed with a highly alkaline material have uniform formation, high brightness, and strong folding endurance.
