Zusammenfassung: | Complementary and alternative therapies derived from ancient that involve nature in healing practice. Aromatherapy is one of the common practices among various complementary and alternative therapies believed as useful in healing process. The use of aromatherapy among chronically ill patients has been growing rapidly in recent years. Nurses' perception of aromatherapy are reported based on the survey: (1) Among 115 Korean nurses, the attitude toward aromatherapy was either slightly positive (74%) or mostly positive (20%), (2) effectiveness of aromatherapy was strongly believed (58%), and (3) learning about aromatherapy was either moderate desired (84%) or strongly desired (15%). We suggest that the effects of aromatherapy and its usefulness need to be taught more intensively to both nursing students and nurses in Korea. Additionally, this paper aimed to theorize the scientific basis of aromatherapy and review how it has been taught, studied, and applied in nursing science.
