Zusammenfassung: | The purpose of this study is to decompose factors of change in Korea’s value-added exports.
In particular, we suggest the factor decomposition method by foreign countries. For this, we use the latest world input-output tables in the World Input-Output database released in 2016.
From the empirical results, we discuss meaningful implications for a Korean commodity trade policy. First, policy makers need to use value-added trade statistics instead of gross trade statistics in order to exclude the double counting problem. Second, since Korea has a high dependence on a small number of foreign countries, it is necessary to establish differentiated trade policies for each country. Finally, we find that Korea’s domestic value addition embodied in intermediate exports to China has decreased, while the domestic value-added inherent in Korea’s final goods exports to China has increased from 2007 to 2013. This result implies that it is necessary to formulate a strategic policy that distinguishes between intermediate goods and final goods. KCI Citation Count: 2 |
