Zusammenfassung:Background : CD44 is an integral membrane glycoprotein expressed by many cell types, serves as the principal transmembrane hyaluronate receptor and may be a determinant of metastatic and invasive behavior in carcinoma. Methods : To evaluate the possible role of CD44 in progression of gastric carcinoma, we applicated immunohistochemical staining against CD44v4/5 and CD44v6 in 90 patients with primary gastric cancer. Result : The expression rate of CD44v6 protein was not significantly correlated with age, sex, tumor location, tumor size, WHO and Lauren classification, but the correlation between the expression rate of CD44v6 protein and depth of invasion (p=0.006), lymph node metastasis (p=0.001) and stage (p=0.020) were significant. The expression rate of CD44v4/5 protein was not significantly correlated with age, sex, tumor location, tumor size, depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis, stage, WHO and Lauren classification. Conclusion : This study showed the role of CD44v6 in depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis, and progression of disease in human gastric cancer. KCI Citation Count: 0
