Zusammenfassung: | A metal nanoparticle is one of the interesting subjects of the nanoscience and nanotechnology because of its bizarre physical and chemical properties which are way diferent from those of bulk metal. One interesting question is whether metal nanoparticles are metallic or not. We have performed 1 H NMR experiments on silver and gold nanoparticles to check the metallic behavior. Measured spectra are composed of two Gaussian lines and the shift of one line is inferred as a Knight shift.
The nuclear spin–lattice relaxation curves are measured and the Korringa relation is investigated. We fnd that the surface of silver nanoparticles does not show Korringa behavior at low temperatures implying that silver nanoparticle, at least its surface, is non-metallic at low temperatures.
