Zusammenfassung: | Discusses an initiative from the School of Nursing, Otago Polytechnic, using groups of third year student nurses in a community assessment and problem solving partnership approach. Outlines health disparities as seen in rural Otago and South Canterbury regions and how student groups completed four individual rural community clinical projects in 2017. Discusses the PHC Strategy (2001) and how this affects student nurse education. Backgrounds theoretical frameworks for clinical practice dealing with rural communities, and the strategies and ethical guidelines involved. Introduces the Community Health Assessment Sustainable Education (CHASE) model and the phases involved - preorientation, orientation, planning for the community health assessment, analysis and reports, work in smaller groups on health issues, developing evidence-based resources, working as a united group, and post-project evaluation. Discusses findings from the project and how these relate to the literature.
