Zusammenfassung:Daughaday and his five colleagues have formulated an interesting and comprehensive survey of the major factors regulating normal growth. As the editor, Daughaday sets the pace with a description of regulation of the secretion of growth hormone and the effects of its second messenger, somatomedin-C. He draws from his clinical and research experience and relates the findings to the general process of growth. The evidence for a close link between somatomedin-C and statural growth is convincing. Laron-type dwarfism is explained as a failure of growth hormone to evoke somatomedin-C production by the liver. The authors contribute detailed and well-written accounts . . .
