Zusammenfassung:We investigate in vitro phototoxicity and photocatalytic activity of titanium dioxide(T1O2). The phototoxicity was evaluated by Neutral Red uptake by NB1RGB cell, and the photocatalytic activity was assessed by both decomposition of 2-propanol and oxidation of tetralin. Exposed to UVA radiation, T1O2 Showed a cytotoxicity, which was accompanied by photocatalytic activity. In addition, the phototoxicity of T1O2 was suppressed by L-ascorbic acid and alcohols but was hardly suppressed by catalase. We concluded that the phototoxicity of T1O2 is based on a photo-oxidative reaction by T1O2, which may be mediated by hydroxy radicals.
