145 PROSECTIVE STUDY OF BODY COMPOSITION AND LIPID PROFILES DURING GROWTH HORMONE TREATMENT IN CHILDREN WITE TURNER SYNDROME

Zusammenfassung:We studied change in body composition and lipid profiles during growth hormone treatment in 22 children with Turner syndrome. Subjects and Method:Twenty-two children with Turner syndrome were diagnosed at our hospital from August, 1992 to August, 2002. Mean age is 10.6 years old. They were evaluated with body composition and lipid profile before and after 3, 6, 12 and every 12 months of GH treatment. Result:Percentage of body fat values of 7 children, who were evaluated before GH treatment, was prone to decrease from 29.0% to 21.4%. For lipid profiles during 2 years of GH treatment, the mean total cholesterol( TC ) values decreased from 197.8 to 191.1 mg/dl, mean low density lipoprotein cholesterol( LDLC ) values decreased from 123.8 to 101.8 mg/dl and mean apolipoprotein B ( Apo-B ) values decreased from 92.3 to 80.9 mg/dl. Mean high density lipoprotein cholesterol ( HDLC ) values increased from 65.7 to 72.1 mg/dl and mean Apo-A I values increased from 142.5 to 153.9 mg/dl. As a result, atherogenic risk factor( TC/HDLC, Apo-B/Apo-A I ) decreased from 3.3 to 2.8, 0.67 to 0.53, respectively. Conclusion:For lipid profiles in children with Turner syndrome, TC and LDLC increased with ageing ( Ross et al. J Pediatr. 126:242-5, 1995 ). Against these tendencies in children with Turner syndrome, our data show the beneficial effects of GH treatment on body composition and the decrease in atherogenic risk factor.
