微量栄養素と生殖生理機能(<特集>ビタミン・ミネラルと生殖【II】)

「1. はじめに」Lucille S.Hurley(1922-1988)は, 著書“Developmental Nutrition”(1980)の序文で, “Developmental nutrition is concerned with the role of nutritional factors in the development of an organism. The term nutritional factors encompasses metabolic or genetic effects on the quantities of essential nutrients or their function, as well as those related to diet. ”と記載している(Fig.1)1). つまり, 胎児の栄養は, 発育・成長における栄養因子の役割と関係している. 栄養因子には, 食事と関連した栄養素と同じように, 必須栄養素の量やその機能に及ぼす代謝的, 遺伝的影響も含まれている, と言っている. Developmental Nutritionにおいては, 本来, 胎児の発育のみでなく, 新生児, 乳児および小児の発育についても考える必要がある.
