Mortality in 154 Surgically Treated Patients with Acromegaly- A 10-year Follow-Up Survey

To determine the effects of surgery and adjuvant therapy on the mortality rate of Japanese patients with acromegaly, 154 surgically treated patients were followed until death or December 2000. Mean follow-up period was 10.0±6.5 (SD) years. Postoperative GH levels, mean values of GH levels measured in the first postoperative month, were 5.0 ng/mL in 31 patients (20.1%). Three of 123 patients with postoperative GH levels 5.0 ng/mL. Among the total 154 patients surveyed, 11(7.1%) died during the follow-up period.
