Zusammenfassung: | Carotid bruits are supposed to indicate the presence of high grade extracranial carotid artery stenosis. There is no clear clinical consensus as to the correct diagnostic procedure to identified patients with carotid bruits. Our objective was to examine the patients with carotid bruits by duplex ultrasonography. Forty-four patients (35 non-operated CEA patients: 46 carotid arteries, 9 postoperative CEA patients; 11 arteries were evaluated with duplex scan. The findings of Doppler waveforms were divided into three patterns:musical murmur (MM) type, high-pitch (HP) type, and contour oscillation (CO) type. In 38 of 46 arteries (80.9%), the cervical bruits may have been caused by the carotid lesions. Peak systolic velocities in patients with HP type of bruits were higher than those in patients with other type of bruits (p |
