Zusammenfassung:Here, we report useful probes of fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) for identification and classification of mulberry species with the diploid genome (2n=28). Cloning and sequencing of tandem repeat sequences in 12 mulberry species showed that there are two families of 5S rDNA sequences with difference in the spacer sequence and length. FISH analysis of the metaphase chromosomes using the 5S rDNA sequences as probes revealed that these sequences were present in the regions near centro-meres in two chromosomes of Morus lhou Garyuu. Cloning and sequencing of tandem repeat sequences showed that a novel repetitive sequence (named MURES1) of 176 bp long was present in the M. cuba Ichinose genome. FISH analysis using the MURES1 sequences as probes revealed that these sequences were present in the regions near centromeres and telomeres in 10 chromosomes of M. bombycis Kenmoti.
