Zusammenfassung: | We have been developing a cerebral thromboembolic stroke model of cynomolgus monkey that is similar to clinical symptoml). We evaluated the efficacy of edaravone on neurologic deficits and cerebral infarction in this model. [Method] A thromboembolic stroke model was obtained by injecting a single autologous blood clot into the left internal carotid artery of a primate. Edaravone was administered at 1 mg/kg/h (infusion over 3 hours) via the femoral vein I hour after embolization. [Results and conclusion] Edaravone significantly improved neurologic deficits (consciousness and total score) 24 hours after embolization. On the other hand, it didn't change the cerebral infarction size compared to the controls. The amelioration of neurologic deficits is very important for stroke patients. These results mentioned above showed that edaravone improved neurologic deficits as a neuroprotective drug. I) Journal of Neuroscience Methods,2001,105,45-53,G.Kito et al. |
