21. Summary of Implant Center in Dental Hospital of Showa University

The implant center was established in the dental hospital of Showa University on the 1 st of April in 2009. The purpose of establishment of the implant center was firstly to treat progressively increased edentulous patients with dental implants, secondly to better the quality of implant therapy, thirdly to reform the educational programs for both the college students and the residents in dental hospital. The superintendent doubled as a head of the implant center, and twelve oral surgeons and twelve prosthodontists were registered as staff doctors. Treatment planning of all patients who visited and registered in the implant center were discussed and decided among staff doctors in the conference of every Monday morning. Not only the conventional implant therapy, but also the immediate loading against the implants and computer guide surgery were adopted aggressively. A total of 118 patients were registered in the implant center within ten weeks from the 13th of this April to the 27th of this June. A total of 58 implants were placed in maxilla and/or mandible of 31 patients within five weeks from the 7th of this May to the 18th of this June. Patients, surgical operations and implants in dental hospital of this year will increase in number in comparison to the results of last year.
