Zusammenfassung:Shunting has been assured to be effective for treatment of progressive hydrocephalus, on the other hand with increase in number of survivors the number of the severe handicapped children may be increasing. Investigation was made for the long term follow up result of the treated hydrocephalus and the appearance of handicapped children. We have experienced 40 cases of hydrocephalus for last 13 years and among these 29 cases just had hydrocephalus and the rest of 11 cases were accompanied by the central nervous system anomalies. There were no difference of the mortality rate in the long term follow up between these 2 groups, but looking at the rate of appearance of the severe handicapped children just hydrocephalic group had 17% and group accompanied by the central nervous system anomalies showed 45% of appearance of the severe handicapped children.
