Zusammenfassung: | It has always been difficult to measure soil quality cost effectively and use these measurements to follow short term changes in soil quality. The changes in soils are slow and it might take years before e.g. a significant increase in soil organic matter can be demonstrated. Soil quality is coupled to the functions and targets for that soil. Unfortunately, in practice, these goals are not always compatible and therefore soil quality cannot consistently be improved. A system based on key performance indicators (KPIs) can offer a solution because it helps to formulate goals, monitor them integrally and thereby stimulate sustainable soil management that helps improve soil quality without directly measuring soil quality. Furthermore, KPI’s can be used as a basis for a f inancial rewarding system for farmers that consistently work towards improvement om soil quality and other ecosystem services. |
