Zusammenfassung:In 1892, a group of men of letters decided to carry out a project of redefinition of national literature. The place of origin of this project were the literary tertulias presided by Rafael Obligado, and its objective, to recover the place lost by letters in view of the expansion and diversification of the public space. This article analyzes the facts and motivations giving rise to the foundation of the Ateneo as initial signals of a process of wide scope in the configuration of modern argentinian literature, starting from the identification of an alliance between a group of lettered men and fin de siècle journalism in Buenos Aires
