Zusammenfassung:In the framework of the program of biological control of the red date scale, Phoenicoccocus marlatti, Cockerell, that is carrying on the Phoenix Research Station in the palm grove of Elche and that begun in 1997, has been realized an evaluation of the effectiveness that repeated releases of Rhyzobius lophanthae, Blaisdell, in this palm grove have on the control of the scale. On a sample of 23 orchards of Elche palm grove that correspond to around 100 hectares on a total of 170 hectares that constitutes the whole historical palm grove, was carried out a study of the evolution population of P. marlatti from October 2004 to September 2005. Two types of sample were used: one qualitative by means of the annotation of the grade of contamination of thirty palms selected randomly in each one of the orchards; a second by means of the quantitative analysis of the population of red scales present in a sample of palm leaves, distinguishing three parts for leaf (it bases, its medium part, its terminal part). The presence of R. lophantae in the palms was registered during the whole duration of the study. The results demonstrate that the population of red scale stayed to low levels during the whole period of the study, with very few fluctuations. A generation of P.marlatti was observed in the month of May and the presence of R. Lophanthae was registered during the whole year with a considerable increase in summer.
