| Zusammenfassung: | The emergence of web 2.0 technologies has created new possibilities for an increasingly multimodal presentation of technical information and instructions. In this study we aim at a linguistic analysis of instructive discourse across different semiotic modes. We focus on the communicative function tied to different modes and on their interaction. We adopt a descriptive method taking pictorial and movie instructions as an example and comparing them with their textual counterparts. Our corpus consists of cooking recipes, patient information leaflets, and technical movie instructions. |
