Zusammenfassung:Cutting fluids contribute a significant amount to the consumables used in the machining industry. Most of the industries are using non-eco-friendly or nonbiodegradable cutting fluids. These cutting fluids may cause skin and respiratory-related health issues for workers. To address this issue, many contributions are made in the area of nano-cutting fluids. These nano-cutting fluids are made by adding a small proportion of nanoparticles into either water or oil or water-soluble oils. This chapter highlights the various investigations to be performed in the initial stages of a novel cutting-fluid development. The experiments required for characterizing novel developed novel cutting fluids to confirm their eco-friendliness and safety to workers' health while satisfying the minimum criteria of lubrication and cooling are explained in detail. The preliminary tests, such as viscosity, thermal conductivity, specific gravity, density, and so on, to characterize the eco-friendly cutting fluids are described. In addition to this advanced test, like wettability, thermal stability, biodegradability, rheological behavior, tribological properties such as the coefficient of friction, and wear-scare-diameter measuring techniques are highlighted. From the worker's health safety point of view, important tests, such as an acute skin irritation test, are explained. This chapter is proposed to bring a methodological or logical way toward the characterization of novel development of eco-friendly cutting fluids for ornamental the worker's and environment safety while fulfilling the machining quality.
