Zusammenfassung:The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of dongchunghacho rice [polished rice cultivated with Paecilomyces tenuipes (PT) or Cordyceps militaris (CM)] on blood glucose level, lipid profile, and antioxidant metabolism in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. Results of the oral glucose tolerance test showed a significant decrease in the area under the curve value of dongchunghacho rice-supplemented groups compared with that of the diabetic control (DC) group. Total plasma cholesterol significantly decreased in dongchunghacho rice-supplemented groups compared with those of the DC groups. Dongchunghacho rice treatment also markedly increased the erythrocyte superoxide dismutase. Fasting blood glucose exhibited a significant negative correlation with total radical trapping antioxidant potential (TRAP) (r=-0.509, p=0.003) and a significant positive correlation with CD levels (r=-0.498, p=0.004). These results suggest that a 13.6% of dongchunghacho rice supplementation to polished rice has hypoglycemic, hypocholesterolemic, and antioxidant potential in STZ-induced diabetic rats.
