Dimethylformamide (DMF)에 의한 전격성 간염 1예

Dimethylformamide (DMF) is widely used as an organic solvent in chemical industry. The effects of DMF exposure in human are not well documented. Complaints of abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, headache, and hepatotoxicity have been reported in workers exposed to DMF. We report a patient with fulminant hepatitis due to the solvent DMF. DMF handling was his major job. He complained of general weakness and showed jaundice. He suffered from hepatic coma due to fulminant hepatitis after admission. The possibility of viral hepatitis, drug induced and alcoholic hepatitis were ruled out from his history and serological study data. We couldn't find any cause of death except fulminant hepatitis from DMF toxicity. (Kor J Gastroenterol 1999;34:547 - 550)
