Zusammenfassung: | The present study deals with clinical analysis of 994 consecutive cases of intussusception in infants and children managed at Yonsei Medical Center during 7 years from 1977 to 1983. Results are as follows: 1) There were 647 male and 337 female patients, a ratio of 1. 9: 1. Occur ed from 4th to 8th month and 81.1%, of the patient were under one year of age 2) 74%, of patients visited the hospital within 24 hours after the 3) The cardinal symptoms and signs were intermittent abdominal pain. The peak age incidence one year of age. Onset of symptoms. Pain (87.8%), vomiting (81.8%), currant je'.ly stool (61.9%) and sausage-shaped mass (66.9%) 4) Barium enema reduction was initially attempted n 951 cases with success in 738(77.6%) Two hundred and fifty six patients were subjected to surgery due to failure of barium enema reduction and contraindication to barium enema reduction. Manual reduction was most frequent (73.8%) and resection was carried out in 26.2% of operat d cases. 5) The most common type of intussusception was ileocolic type (52.8%) in operated cases. 6) The causative factors were found only in 5 5i, of them and rest of them (94.5%) were idiopathic. 7) The postoperative complication occurred in 14. 9%. 8) The recurrence rate after barium reduction was 8.8% and that of operation was 4.3%, total recurrence rate being 7.7%. 9) The mortality rate of all cases was 0. 3% and operative mortality was 1.2%. |
