Zusammenfassung: | Giant cell tumor located around knee joint has been difficult to treat because of the high rate of local recurrence following curettage with or without bone graft. Although primary resections reduce recurrence of the lesion, the joint function will be markedly impaired. Techniques involving physical adjuncts (high-speed burr and electrical cauterization) have been used in the hope of decreasing the rate of local recur- rence and avoiding the morbidity of primary resection. The result of 10 patients trea- ted by various methods, with an average followed period of 43 months, are reported. Result were obtained as follows: 1. There were 4 males and 6 females and average age was 37.5 years, and average follow up period was 3 years 7 months, ranged from 1 year to 7 years. 2. Surgical treatments consist of curettage and space filling in 9 cases, above knee amputation in 1 case. The kinds of space fillers are autogenous bone in 3 cases, homogenous bone in 2 cases, heterogenous bone in 2 cases and cement in 2 cases. 3. Curettage and space filling had been used in four cases of recurrence. 4. Milling with high speed burr and electrical cauterization may be used as an adjuncts to curettage in the treatment of giant cell tumor located around knee joint to decrease the rate of local recurrence and avoiding the morbidity of resection. |
