Zusammenfassung: | The Clasgow Coma Scale(GCS) is now widely used to assess con.ciousness in the head injured patient. The relative predictive contributions of the three subscales eye opening, verbal response. And motor response - are well known method for assessing patients with impaired consciousness that we described almost a decade ago has been widely accepted and many hospitals are summed. Death can be expected only amongst patients already in coma due to severe estahlished hrain damage. Such patients would have no cye opening and no comprehensihle verbal respon.es so that their coma score would depcnd upon motor response. Eighty nine head injured patients who admited to the intensive care unit at thc Asan rnedica1 centre from 1990 to l997 were reviewed. Among the 89 patients, we selected 46 intuhated patients. Twenty eight out of forty six patients were recovered trom comatous status. Difficulty in obtaining accurate verbal response scores is commonly encountered in assessing head injured patients especialiy intuhated. Accordin to our report, the motor response score alone was a slightly better predictor than the summed Glasgow Coma Scale. |
