Review of Inelastic Proton-Proton Reactions
The most important new results on inelastic proton-proton scattering obtained with the new machines, I.S.R. and N.A.L., are: (1) The inelastic cross-section increases monotonically with energy from threshold to 1500 GeV/c. Above 6 GeV/c the energy variation has a $s$$^{+0.04}$ behaviour. (2) Scaling...

Zusammenfassung: | The most important new results on inelastic proton-proton scattering obtained with the new machines, I.S.R. and N.A.L., are:
(1) The inelastic cross-section increases monotonically with energy from threshold to 1500 GeV/c. Above 6 GeV/c the energy
variation has a $s$$^{+0.04}$ behaviour. (2) Scaling is observed at I.S.R. energies in pion production. Confirmation is obtained
of the hypothesis of limiting fragmentation. (3) The results are in general, consistent with the two-component model - one
class of events being produced by diffraction dissociation and the other by a short-range-order process (e.g. the multiperipheral
model). (4) There are indications that the protons have a granular structure; this from observation of secondaries of large
transverse momenta. |
