Zusammenfassung: | Marquart of Stadtkyll, a surgeon of the late Middle Ages, is the author of a treatise concerning prognosis of death transmitted by two manuscripts. Both are presented extensively. The research of medical prose proves the existence of this surgeon and his works. The results of the present study complement the state of research. The analysis of these prognosis continues the line of tradition, explains the influence of the Christian idea of a “good death” in the Middle Ages and points out Marquart’s strategies of reception of historical sources, but although his independence. In the same way his capability is compared to contempory medical science; thus, delineates his self-image. |
