Gedämpfte Erwartungen an die NPT-Überprüfungskonferenz

Prospects for success at the Tenth Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) are dim. However, there have been some successes on the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons. Securing existing arms control treaties like the New START Treaty will be key. The new Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons has revived nuclear disarmament discussions. Groups of like-minded states will play an important role in discussing specific arms control measures. The 191 NPT states parties should aim for a comprehensive and binding agreement that balances different pillars: non-proliferation, disarmament and peaceful use of nuclear energy.
