Zusammenfassung:On 26 June 2015, the United States Supreme Court legalised same-sex marriage, authorising the licensing and legal recognition of gay and lesbian marriages. It premised the decision on marriage equality rights under the due process clause and the equal protection clause of the fourteenth amendment to the American constitution. This article examines the politics of homosexuality and same-sex marriage in the US and Europe vis-à-vis Africa. It explores the socio-jurisprudential reality of most African states including core religious and moral conservatism, which refer to homosexuality as “un-African” and “unnatural”. At the end, it underscores the failure of Western economic diplomacy to lure Africa into legalising homosexuality and same-sex marriage through economic and political pressure, threats and sanctions.
