Zusammenfassung: | Despite vigorous campaigns and efforts aimed at achieving equal representation of women in governance, women are still treated unequal are to men. Age-old traditional beliefs, women’s physical weaknesses and men’s egos have been identified, as some of the reasons for this discrimination. The study detailed in this article investigate women’s political representation and role performance in governance in three Nigerian communities. The research revealed that women are often sidelined not so much because of the capital requirement in preparing for political office, but rather due to the dual burden of domestic responsibilities and professional obligations. It is suggested that people should vote for women aspirants as their appointment to strategic political offices would further the stability and sustainability of Nigeria’s nascent democracy. |
