Preparation for the "Gatekeeper" Role in an Ethnic Community: The Use of a Short-term Intensive Alcoholism Education Program

The purposes of this paper are: (a) to suggest that the critical lack of skilled alcoholism personnel in ethnic and minority communities can be alleviated by preparing professionals outside of the alcoholism field to assume a "gatekeeper" role; and (b) to show that a short-term intensive alcoholism education program can be an effective preparation for such a role.
