GENDER RELATED TOXIC EFFECTS OF TRI-N-BUTYLTIN TAUROCHOLATE AND TRI-N-BUTYLTIN GLYCOCHOLATE IN RATS

Zusammenfassung:The gender related oral acute toxicity of tri-n-butyltin taurocholate (TBT-TA) and tri-n-butyltin glycocholate, (TBT-GA) was investigated using Long Evans rats. Morbidity was recorded one to eight days after a single administration of the test chemical. With the administration of TBT-GA, male animals exhibited a higher death rate than females (F = 12.11) [8 x 24]. In the case of the animals administered TBT-TA, more females than males died (F = 3.88) [5 x 24]. The toxicity was dose-related in the test range of 100-600 mg/kg and the gender effects were most distinct at a dose level approximately 1.5 times the LD₅₀ for the compounds. The data indicate that organotin compounds exhibit gender selective toxicity and merits further investigation.
