Zusammenfassung:Though it has become customary to hear that the efforts of R and D by industry have been not very significant, government statistics do not include the efforts made by business entities and a host of individuals who do not care to get registered with the department of industrial and scientific research. There is a need to quantify such efforts so that industry can provide a basis for networking and informed policy-making. R and D centres in industry have created impressive infrastructure and have employed very well trained and quality manpower. Indian industry has made several innovations in their own way. There is need to accentuate these trends.
