Design of Optimized Profiles for Stall Regulated HAWTs: Part 2: Airfoil Design Method Validation and Assessment

Zusammenfassung: | The second part of the paper focuses on the direct airfoil analysis covering Viscous-Inviscid (VII) and Navier-Stokes (N-S) methodologies, which are described and applied to the three wind turbine airfoils (hub, mid, tip) as well as to the wind tunnel tip section airfoil designed presented in Part 1. For the latter case, the design method is assessed against experimental results obtained for the wind tunnel model tip section airfoil, which was manufactured and tested at Southampton University. The comparisons validated the design philosophy and outlined the relative merits/drawbacks of both inverse (design) and direct (analysis) procedures as well as their range of application and limitations. |
