PREPARATION OF S-DEACETYLAZADIRACHTIN USING AZADERACHTIN ISOLATED FROM AZADIRACHTA INDICA SEED

Extraction of Azadirachta indica or "neem" seed with organic solvents afforded azadirachtin, strong locust antifeedant and insect growth inhibitory compound. Base hydrolysis of azadirachtin yielded 16.7% 3-deacetylazadirachtin after esterification and reacetylation gave 56% azadirachtin.
