Zusammenfassung:The drawing described as Bartholomeus Spranger under Nr. 3435 of the 1913 inventory of the De Grez Collection, the drawings of which were recently on view in the Boymans Museum (see Note 1, ill. 1), is here attributed, on stylistic grounds, to A. Bloemaert. A similar, but better print, signed Bloemaert (ill 2), is in the Albertina, Vienna, under the name of Cornelis van Haarlem. Under Nr. 2664 of the inventory (see Note 8) a drawing representing Prometheus is mentioned, which is signed and dated: Muller Ao 1588 (ill. 5). This drawing is recognized here as a studio repetition of a, likewise better, print in the Albertina, Vienna (ill. 6), with an authentic signature of Cornells van Haarlem, and dated 1588. With reference to Van Mander's „Uitlegginghe en Singhevende Verclaringhe" (Explanation and Comments) on Ovid's Metamorphoses, the author shows that it is not the traditional representation of the Prometheus story, but the figure of Tityus which is depicted here. Nr. 1531 of the inventory (Note 12, ill. 7), described as anonymous, is attributed here to the draughtsman of a sketch of a number of prophets under the name of Bloemaert in the Stockholm Print Room (ill. 8). An engraving by J. Matham after Karel van Mander, representing the Adoration of the Christ Child (ill. 9), for which the Stockholm drawing is clearly a preliminary sketch, indicates Van Mander as author of both drawings.
