Zusammenfassung:Studies were undertaken to evaluate the effect of various steaming conditions on the reduction of moisture content in green gurjan sleepers, and to determine the effect of steaming on absorption of 60-40 creosote-petroleum preservative. The steaming did not provide an effective means of seasoning green gurjan, nor did it contribute to better absorption. It was, however, determined that treating pressure and temperature had a significant effect on absorption. It was also found that treatment of gurjan sleepers did not provide adequate absorption and distribution of the preservative.
