Zusammenfassung:The Rockefeller Foundation's post-war social science programme in Europe was directed by Joseph Willits. In 1946, Willits decided to focus his Division's efforts on France, and to offer fellowships to a new generation of social scientists. The Foundation's social science activity in Europe tapered off after 1955. This paper examines Willits' initiatives, and considers their consequences.
