Zusammenfassung: | In the framework of the research "The Housing Market in the Czech Republic, its Regional Differentiation and Relations to Social Structure", 588 standardised telephone interviews were carried out with people advertising their housing requirements in the classified sections of local newspapers. From an analysis of the data, it was possible to form hypotheses about who was entering the housing market in 1996/97, their reasons for doing so, and their personal circumstances. The sample mainly consisted of mostly young people up to the age of 30 in a wide variety of professions, individuals and couples (married and unmarried, with and without children) requiring greater independence or seeking more suitable dwellings. Upward, downward, and sideways housing paths are described according to the respective disposability of dwelling as a series of intended transitions between five specific types of housing solutions: living with parents, hostel, sublet, rented housing, and home ownership. Of the studied sample, 71% of transitions were on an upward trajectory and 53% were oriented towards home ownership. |
