Bethel Presbyterian Church’s Moving Story

Twice in the 200-year history of Bethel Presbyterian Church, its historic sanctuary has been physically relocated. Those moves serve as an apt metaphor for the broader history of this East Tennessee congregation. For two centuries, Bethel’s people have effectively adapted to changes great and subtle in the region, the nation at large, and in the broader Christian community. Throughout this historical journey, they found ballast and direction in timeless historical legacies and an understanding of the fundamentals of their Faith that was, at once, constant and open to change.
