The Extra Volume Series of The Folk-Lore Society (1879-1930)

The Folk-Lore Society between 1879 and 1930 published alongside its journal a monograph series known as the Extra Volume. While some thirty-six titles appeared, this activity of the Society has not received due attention. Presented here is a shelf-checked listing of these at times bibliographically confusing works together with an account of the series itself, a thematic overview of the titles, and a description of the financial cost to the Society. Most titles are now only of historic interest, but a number do still stand out.
