Commentaries on Peter Lombard’sBook of Sentencesrepresent the by far most widespread vehicle of speculative theology in the late Middle Ages. However, only few of them have been edited and analysed so far and the majority remains accessible only in manuscripts. This is also true for the literal commentary and the commentarymodo quaestionumon theSentencesby the German Dominican Johannes Streler (†1459). They were composed at the University of Vienna during the years 1434-1435/1436 and represent an interesting, and so far unnoticed, example of both medieval viennese university theology and of the late medieval Dominikanerschule. The aim of the present work is to offer to the reader an edition of the parts in these two commentaries relative to the prologue of theSentencesas well as atabula quaestionum.
