Zusammenfassung:The Syrian poet Dīk al-Ǧinn distinguished himself during the Abbasid period of Arabic literature for telling in verses the tragic love story of which he was the protagonist. His story has travelled through the time until the twentieth century. In 1916 another Syrian poet, Nasīb ʿArīḍa, a writer and editor native of Ḥimṣ, composed and published on the pages of the literary magazine al-Funūn, "The story of Dīk al-Ǧinn al-Ḥimṣī", drawing inspiration from the classical texts and readapting them in a modern way. The purpose of this paper is to present the poet Dīk al-Ǧinn on two levels: one based on the study of the classical sources; the other on an analysis of the story told by Nasīb ʿArīḍa. Special attention has been paid to poetry as moment of fusion between classic and modern literature, with the aim of studying its prosodic and metrical aspects.
