Zusammenfassung: | Water pollution research in South Africa involves a variety of government departments, statutory bodies, industries, and universities. Most of this research is carried out by the National Institute for Water Research, which has an annual budget that exceeds $3.5 million and forms part of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research. The National Institute for Water Research is involved with limnology, water quality and health, water renovation, desalination, industrial effluents, marine pollution, and sludge treatment. In 1971 the Water Research Commission was established to coordinate water research by financing research projects, setting up research study groups, and promoting application of research findings. |
