Zusammenfassung: | The 100th anniversary of the appearance of Sudhoffs Archiv, founded in 1917, suggests a view not only on the long history of this journal. It also has stimulated the editors to take a closer look at the founder himself, Karl Sudhoff (1853-1938), and his proximity to National Socialism. This paper offers a brief biography of Sudhoff, and-based on a documentation offered by Werner Kümmel-provides all the data known with regard to Sudhoff’s attitude towards his Jewish colleagues, before and after 1933, and the possible motives behind his joining the Nazi party in 1933. The resulting image of Sudhoff is multi-faceted and is offered here as a starting point for further discussions. |
