Zusammenfassung: | An archaeological survey of the woodland at Austwick Hall, near Settle, Yorkshire, was undertaken to identify and map features of historic interest. Documentary evidence suggests that the formal woodland paths and viewing platform were originally constructed by Richard Clapham when the woodland was planted in 1847–48. Although influenced by John Claudius Loudon, it is suggested that Clapham's inspiration for his picturesque landscape was drawn from woodlands at Bewerley and the neighbouring Ingleborough estate. |
