Zusammenfassung:In 2007 a team led by Ehud Netzer unearthed the remains of an impressive mausoleum half-way up the northeastern slope of the hill of Herodium. Numerous fragments of three partially preserved sarcophagi were found scattered around the collapsed structure. The sarcophagi, made of local limestone, are clear examples of the funerary art of Judea from the 1st century BCE to the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 CE. These sarcophagi are typical products of Jerusalem and Judean stone-carving workshops during the Second Temple Period.
