Zusammenfassung: | Five individuals of Sorex palustris were taken in the Nantahala Mountains constituting the first record of this species in North Carolina. Principal foods were immature Trichoptera, Plecoptera, and Ephemerida. Other species taken were Sorex cinereus (12 individuals), S. fumeus (24), Lasionycteris noctivagans (6), Peromyscus leucopus (15), P. maniculatus (56), Ochrotomys nuttalli (4), Clethrionomys gapperi (9), Rattus norvegicus (2), Zapus hudsonius (2), and Napaeozapus insignis (11). Ectoparasites are reported from the mammals; a number of mites not previously reported from North Carolina and new host records are included. |
